STAR offers a range of services for school age children which includes intensive behavioral intervention, social skills instruction, parent education and support, school consultation and individualized program development, provision of ABA trained instructional assistants, classroom-wide interventions, teacher and paraprofessional training, inclusion support, functional behavioral assessments, and positive behavior support plans. More
Each student’s program is carefully designed to develop functional skills and resolve problem behaviors that will promote independence and allow participation in the least restrictive environment. To ensure that students can perform these new skills in many different settings, school based support includes contextualized behavior supports delivered across relevant home, school, and community settings.
STAR provides hands-on consultation support for schools, classrooms, and student teams. This includes focused training for school personnel, classroom team members and instructional assistants in specific areas of need. Our support also includes classroom coaching, program development, and intermittent team meetings to facilitate and monitor the implementation and progress of these programs. More
In this role, STAR helps facilitate communication between team members (e.g., classroom staff, the school site administration, and the Director of Pupil Services) and streamline each child’s treatment plan. Intermittent progress reports are provided, summarizing improvements in staff and classroom development, identifying ongoing areas of need, and generating recommendations for responding to those needs.
STAR can deliver behavioral services to specific students in order to build their requisite skills and resolve behavioral challenges necessary for students to participate in the least restrictive environment possible while accessing their curriculum, and demonstrating progress toward Individualized Education Program goals. These IEP driven services include Functional Analysis Assessments, provision of ABA trained instructional assistants to support students in the classroom or direct instruction delivered in the home, as well as supervision of such programs to oversee program development, implementation, and monitor student outcomes. More
As a supplement to consultation support, using STAR for IEP driven services provides districts with an immediate response to addressing the needs of individual students. STAR’s delivery of such services also provides a model of effective Applied Behavior Analytic services for school districts. As the student’s challenging behaviors are resolved and relevant skills begin to emerge, an emphasis is placed on transferring responsibility for such behavioral services back to district personnel. This teaches students to benefit from the natural supports that exist within their classroom and district team members.
When your child has special needs, having an outside resource help to manage them can be invaluable. STAR works collaboratively with your family and outside providers to ensure consistency in your child’s services. Collaboration can include STAR therapists and/or supervisor observing services; other providers observing STAR services, and Individualized Education Plans or team meetings. In addition, each child receives a Person Centered Profile that is updated quarterly (or as needed) and shared by all treatment team members. This powerful support tool allows team members to have essential knowledge of your child’s strengths as well as the challenges they are facing.
